FREE UK Screening of 'Territories' & 'Handsworth Songs' 17th July - London

I just came across this FREE screening event in London of 2 old archive films which i thought i should list as i know many of you will be interested, details below....

"Our free archive screenings are a great opportunity to see some interesting old footage from the vaults of various film archives, such as the BFI and Huntley Film Archives."

All free screenings will be held on Sunday afternoons.

Followed by a Q&A with ‘Handsworth Songs’ producer Lina Gopual.

In association with Black History Studies. This thought-provoking double-bill combines two experimental documentaries about black culture. Isaac Julien’s Territories (1984) critiques the way traditional media represents black people and portrays the Notting Hill Carnival as an event about resistance. John Akomfrah & Black Audio Film Collective’s Handsworth Songs (1986) is an essay on race and disorder in Britain, filmed in Handsworth and London during the riots of 1985 and incorporating newsreel and archival material. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Lina Gopaul, the producer of Handsworth Songs.
