The Harder They Come + Film Jamaica....
The Harder They Come season
Featuring Linton Kwesi Johnson and Film Jamaica
6 Mar – 5 Apr 2008
Barbican
Soak up some Caribbean spirit at the Barbican this Spring, with smash-hit reggae musical The Harder They Come, a season of cult Jamaican films, and a night of deeply grooving dub and reggae with Linton Kwesi Johnson.
Following two sell out runs at Theatre Royal Stratford East(UK), the musical magic of The Harder They Come hits the Barbican. This exhilarating production is based on the groundbreaking film of the same name and features all the classic songs from the film soundtrack, including You Can Get It If You Really Want and By The Rivers of Babylon.
Linton Kwesi Johnson is joined by special guests including Dennis Bovell and Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze for a night of performance on 9 March. Famed worldwide as the first reggae poet, Johnson has been at the heart of the Jamaican-British experience since the 70s.
Film Jamaica is a season of Jamaican cinema celebrating the island’s rich musical heritage. Screenings include the original version of The Harder They Come, Smile Orange and No Place Like Home.
